Choosing the right accommodation for your medical tourism journey

There are a number of factors to take into consideration when choosing your accommodation in Seoul. Unlike a regular holiday, you are not just interested in sightseeing and regular tourism, you must instead take into account:

  •  Location – just like a regular holiday location is everything when it comes to choosing your accommodation. In Seoul there is great public transport, however if you choose a location that is popular with tourists, but not close to the clinics, you could spend over an hour traveling to see just one doctor!

It is imperative that you take into account the locations of the clinics you want to see when booking accommodation. Ideally you want to be either walking distance or just a short bus/train ride away. This is also important should any complications arise after your procedure. Quick and easy access to your doctor is essential should there be any unforeseen issues.

Convenience is also key, as often after a procedure it is important to rest and recover. Always ensure you are located near convince stores, take out restaurants and other essential services. Imagine having to take a taxi just to get a coffee! And now imagine that the day after you undergo surgery!

Unfortunately apps like google maps are often very inaccurate in Korea, this is because Koreans don’t use google or uber. They have their own apps which give them directions, reviews, call taxis and even order food.

Luckily Anthony in Seoul is here to help you find the right accommodation. After establishing which clinics you will see, Anthony can book clean, comfortable and convenient accommodation for you and your unique medical journey!

  • Comfort – Depending on the type of procedure you choose to undergo there may be certain items that will aid in your recovery. For example if you get rhinoplasty, it is it recommended to sleep upright and avoid laying flat! As such you need to stay somewhere that can provide you additional pillows or a special bed to remain propped up.

It is often helpful to have a fridge/kitchenette available as well, there are some days where you may not feel up to going out and getting food so having some simple microwaveable meals kept in the fridge can prove a lifesaver!

Cleanliness is also extremely important. You will want to ensure you are staying somewhere with a clean, private bathroom for you to use. Often after a procedure, you are not supposed to wet the area operated on. This makes washing your self almost impossible! As such you will need a bathroom where you can find creative ways to wash, wether is means you have a portable shower head or extra large sink.

With Anthony organizing your accommodation, he will take into account your particular procedure as well as any personal preferences to try and find the most suitable accommodation for your rest and recovery.

  • Hotel VS serviced apartment style accommodation – Both hotels and serviced apartments (like airbnbs) can make great accommodation choices for your medical journey. It is simply a case of finding the right fit for you.

Often if you choose to stay in a hotel you will not have access to a kitchenette or fridge, Therefore it is important to ensure that they offer room service for those days where you don’t feel up to going out.  Full service hotels, although convenient, unfortunately tend to be significantly more expensive than serviced apartments (especially when you take advantage of room service/daily breakfast!) .

Apartments tend to be more economical whilst providing you with more freedom and flexibility. With their kitchenettes it means you can always keep the food and drinks you love waiting in the fridge for you.  While this may require a little more planning than hotel room service it will often be significantly cheaper and more delicious!

Anthony, as a Seoul native, can give you lots of recommendations for restaurants and cafes near your accommodation (wether hotel or apartment) that you will love!

Ultimately it is up to you to decide what accommodation is right for your medical journey. Whilst it is certainly possible to book your own accommodation, it may be difficult to ensure it meets the above criteria as a non Korean. This is why Anthony is available to help you quickly and easily find the right place for you to call home during your medical journey in Seoul.  To find out more about accommodation options available to you in Seoul simply fill out the contact form.
